Noteworthy Sightings on Sibuya Game Reserve

BATELEURS (Terathopius ecaudarus) – by Chris and guests. Numerous sightings. One of which was a battle for possession of a snake… high above them, a YELLOWBILLED KITE (Milvus migrans) was attempting to reclaim his prey!

REDBILLED OXPECKERS (Buphagus erythrorhynchus) – by Chris, Bryan and guests near Twin Dams.

NARINA TROGONS (Apaloderma narina) – by Kerrow, Bryan, Chris and guests in the thick forest. Various sightings.

Buffalo Billy observes us from the safety of his mother’s side!

AARDWOLF (Proteles cristatus) – a solitary nocturnal animal seldom seen. Justin observed this secretive animal while on rhino-watch.

CARACALS ( Felis caracal) – three different animals seen by Kerrow, Chris, and Nick during the day. Unusual sightings as they are generally nocturnal and very secretive!

This magnificant caracal stayed long enough to give us a bold stare!

AFRICAN CIVET (Civettictis civetta) an extremely rare and interesting sighting captured on a rhino-watch security camera. Has this solitary nocturnal animal ever been seen in this area before? We are unable to find anyone to verify this. Its usual range is far to the north of SIBUYA. Let’s hope this one stays!

BARN OWLS (Tyto alba) – spotted by Welcome, Ella, and Nick. Nesting in a hole with a view… high up in the Kariega River bank between Forest and River Camp… they have a lovely vantage point from which to watch life going by on the river below.

ELEPHANTS SWIMMING – a wonderful play session in the dam at Long Camp, thoroughly enjoyed  by Chris and guests.

Two young Ele’s enjoying some water sports!

RHINO GIVING BIRTH – a once in a life-time experience seen by Justin during his nightly rhino-watch duties. Wow! We have another new baby… two in one month… how lucky is that!!

When you’re a day old rhino calf, the world’s
pretty big, scary and also very interesting!

From Carol and the SIBUYA TEAM, we thank you for your support and congratulate all those of you who chose to celebrate their Special Occasions with us… WEDDINGS, BIRTHDAYS and ANNIVERSARIES! We wish you many happy memories to treasure and years ahead filled with joyous adventures!

We hope to see you all back here again…  remember… “SIBUYA! WE WILL RETURN!”

Special thanks to Chris Ovens for the use of his great photographs
